Session Abstract

The availability of affordable and reliable technology, coupled with market demands, allows trainers and coaches to reach clients around the globe. This global reach via Internet requires trainers and coaches to consider the following questions to raise their effectiveness:
  • How does communication technology shape the training and coaching conversations?
  • What kind of worldviews and skills are needed in order to adapt the training and coaching to different communication channels, such as Skype, Webex, HD video, collaboration platforms etc?
  • How do cultural differences impact the conversation via communication technology?
There is not a one size fits all solution. By example, the culture-general frameworks and the DMIS model by Milton Bennett shared during this workshop can be adapted to help give virtual training and coaching sessions a local touch making them more effective.
This dynamic workshop provides participants with a structure and check list of cultural frameworks as well a practical tips that enables them to prepare and deliver their virtual workshops and coaching sessions even more effectively.
Objective:
This workshop is designed to address the influence of communication technologies in intercultural training and how to create coherent virtual third cultures to communicate most effectively.
Target audience:
Trainers and coaches working virtually by using different communication tools such as the telephone, Skype, Webex, Gotomeeting, Adobe Connect, online platforms etc who want to create a coherent fit of culture, technology and context.
Methodology/activities:
The three presenters from three different cultures work as trainers and coaches virtually and face to face, globally different industries. The workshop is based on the constructivist paradigm based on a theory into practise approach and designed accordingly. It will be dynamic and encourage audience interaction during several exercises and discussions after a brief introduction of the subject.
